Our next pack meeting is Tuesday, November 19 at 6pm at the HMB Yacht Club.  Come join us!

Contact us today to start your child's adventure.  info@coastside255.org .  Serving all Coastside youth, from Half Moon Bay to Montara, and even points beyond.  Our members come from all of the local public schools in the Cabrillo Unified School District, as well as local private schools such like Sea Crest in Half Moon Bay and Good Shepherd in Pacifica.

Cub Scouts have fun with a purpose! Cub Scout Pack 255 serves San Mateo Coastside boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade in Montara, Moss Beach, Princeton, El Granada, and Half Moon Bay.  As a Cub Scout, your child will make lifelong friends as she learns and practices Cub Scout values through age appropriate, individual and group activities.  Our Pack 255 family is very active with something for everyone to participate in.  We like to think of it as a smorgasbord where you take what works for you and leave what doesn't work.  Our committee creates a full calendar of events from September through May, and for those who want to keep going all year, we have a lighter schedule during the summer.

Come check us out!  All are welcome.  We meet as a Pack at the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club at Pillar Point Harbor.  Pack meetings are usually held the third Tuesday of the month, September through May, although there are some months where we move to the third or fourth Wednesday; check with us.  If you're interested in a smaller meeting, our Dens meet once/twice a month at different times. Contact us and we can connect you with the appropriate people.

Interested in learning more?  Please use the Contact Us button in the menu in the left hand column of this page to leave us a message.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Dear Scouting Friends,

Today, the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to achieve two key objectives: equitably compensate victims who were harmed during their time in Scouting and continue to carry out Scouting’s mission for years to come.

Pinewood Derby - 2020

Posted by fusion94 on Feb 18 2020 - 10:42am

The pinewood derby is a racing event for unpowered, unmanned miniature cars. With the help of adults, Scouts build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and metal axles.

For those new to Scouting, it goes like this. Each Scout starts off with a block of wood and four simple wheels. With a little help (well, maybe sometimes more than just a little!) from family or friends, the Scout gets to make his car as he envisions. The project is a fun way for Scouts to be creative, to learn how to work together with others, and to develop building and/or wood-working skills. The car often becomes a treasured keepsake for most Scouts -- many a Scouting dad has fond memories of racing their Pinewood Derby car as a kid.

The cars in each den are raced together. Pack 255 awards trophies for the First and Second finishers in each den in the speed contest, and First place for the entire Pack. During the Pack meeting leading up to Derby Day, Scouts will also receive awards for Most Creative, Best Design, and Best Cub Scout Spirit, and other categories. Speed trophies are awarded for each Cub Scout level (i.e. Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelo I, Webelo II). But the real prize that each Scout wins is priceless -- creative fun, edge-of-your-seat thrills, and memories that may last a lifetime.
